Key Information

This authentic and outstanding Meyers Manx Dune Buggy was acquired in 1966 by movie star Chuck Connors, who used it in the TV show “Cowboy in Africa”.

The buggy was upgraded with a Porsche 356 engine, distinctive wheels, and prominent searchlights – likely customized specifically for the series.

After the series ended, the buggy was imported to Italy in 1970 and purchased by Edilio Rusconi, CEO of the renowned publishing house “Rusconi Editori”. In the 1990s, it was sold to Italian artist Franco Bellucci who gave it a bold new look by replacing the original Yuma Yellow Gel coat with an unique Red / Blue metal flake. Luckily, the iconic wheels and searchlights that featured in the series were preserved.

Powered by a 356 Porsche engine this very unique example remains in exceptional condition after no-expense-spared, frame-off restoration in 2014 which led to a spectacular end result.

The current owner, a private, free-spirited Australian living in Monaco, bought it in 2016 and spent nearly a year dealing with the principality’s administration to have it registered – after Prince Rainier had decided many years ago to forbid the registration of such types of vehicles. Once the registration was finally approved, it became the only dune buggy officially registered in Monaco.

“An American icon, the Manx embodies the go-anywhere, do-anything and the southern California spirit of its creator, Bruce F. Meyers. Based on European underpinnings, the modified Volkswagen Beetle drivetrain and shortened frame offer a steady, reliable base for lightweight fiber glass bodywork. The combination of purpose-built, off-road ability and lightweight construction allowed the Manx to dominate the overland racing scene of the 1960s, beating trucks, motorcycles, and cars at the inaugural Baja 1000. Aside from becoming a staple of off-road racing, it also developed a road-going pop-culture following, bolstered by its starring role in such films as Steve McQueen’s The Thomas Crown Affair.”

Whether you’re in a show, on the road or cruising the beach, this Dune Buggy is ready to deliver on the Meyers promise of “More Smiles per Mile…”
