“The E-Type Series 3 was introduced in 1971, featuring Jaguar’s first new engine since the XK of 1948. The advanced 5.3-litre all-aluminium V12, with twin overhead camshafts, was a tour de force of engineering, combining power with refinement and eclipsing its rivals. To house the larger engine, the body was re-engineered with revised frames, uprated suspension and brakes, and wider wings to accommodate broader wheels and tyres. The bonnet opening was also enlarged and fitted with a distinctive chrome grille.
Launched as a long-wheelbase 2+2 fixed-head coupé, the Series 3 range soon included the roadster, which also benefited from the extended wheelbase while remaining a two-seater. The 2+2 was discontinued in 1973, while the roadster continued in production until 1974, marking the end of the E-Type era.”
